How a 3× World Champion built Australia’s flagship Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy and the family that keeps it thriving.

Black Belt 4th Degree
3× World Champion
SJJA Lane Cove is the newest home of Sharp Jiu Jitsu Academy, right here on Sydney’s Lower North Shore.
The story starts in 2016. Bruno Alves, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and multiple-time World Champion, opened the first SJJA in Lane Cove with one goal: teach world-class Jiu Jitsu to as many people as possible. It grew into one of the largest and most respected BJJ networks in Australia, with academies across the North Shore and beyond.
SJJA Lane Cove brings that system to your doorstep. Same curriculum, same standards, and the same belt-by-belt path that’s produced national champions and thousands of
confident students.
We’re a martial arts school in Lane Cove, but we’re also a community. Kids, parents, beginners and black belts all train on the same mats.
You’ll learn self-defence that works, get fitter without thinking about it, and be part of something that holds you to a higher standard.
Every class
Bruno Alves is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt 4th degree under Zé Radiola (ZR Team), with World, Pan American, South American and European titles at middleweight. Every SJJA academy, Lane Cove included, teaches the methodology he built. That’s why the coaching is consistent no matter which North Shore location you walk into.
Lane Cove sits in the heart of the Lower North Shore. We’re a short drive for anyone after BJJ in Longueville, Riverview, Greenwich, Northwood, Lane Cove North, Lane Cove West, Artarmon or St Leonards, with parking nearby.
Whether you want a family activity, a serious training room, or your first step into martial arts, you’ve got a home here, without the trip to the city.
